North Manchester 2nd XV 19 - Sedgley Park 15
North’s 2nd XV were involved in an equally exciting game at Sedgeley Park. North had fell 10-0 behind and only for some excellent tackling by Sam Donley and debutants James Atherton and Adam Burgan, the deficit could have been considerably more. North scored a try in the opening minutes of the second half after great work by Kyle Bullows allowed Faisal Tajini to crash over in the corner to make the score10-5.
Sedgeley were then on top and North were camped in their own half for large periods of the second half. North’s defence, led by Captain Gordon Morrison, was excellent and the home side were only able to breach North’s line once, with 5 minutes to go to lead 15-5, despite their dominance. The game seemed over and Sedgeley kicked the ball up field deep into North’s territory. Try-machine Kyle Howard received the kick and set off on an amazing length of the field run to score a brilliant try under the posts, which Scott Danby converted, to close the score to 15-12 with seconds left. From the resulting kick off North’s forwards worked the ball up the field before it was worked through North’s backline to winger Aaron Morrison who skipped round his opposing defender to score. Scott Danby added the conversion to complete a remarkable turnaround and give North a 19-15 victory. Youngster Aaron Morrison was given the man of the match award for an awesome display.
